We returned from the Netherlands, where we visited Escher's museum (in Den Haag) with my almost 7 year old. He was fascinated with his work, and continued talking about it and wanted to go back.When we got home I searched for a book that would contain plenty of images, and too a gamble with this book. Success! This is exactly what I was looking for. My son loves looking at the pictures, tries to copy some with tracing paper, and now is even making his own original work based on Escher.They also include some letters Escher wrote, which I find to be very interesting.
Like most people, I was familiar with Escher's famous "globe" and "staircase" woodcuts, but this book somewhat chronologically illustrates a broad scope of his work, from his early woodcuts of trees and Italian landscapes to intimate portraits of his aging parents. It also shows that his work was rooted in mathematical precision and obsession. The fold-out pages are wonderful and the method of identifying works on each page is easy to follow once you understand the methodology. As others have noted, the quotes from Escher himself enliven each page and illustration. A wonderful gift.

The best book ever about Escher from all others was released before till today.Quality of prints, contains and all illustrations just the best.
Decided to purchase this book after visiting M.C. Escher museum at Hague. This book shows great collection of Escher's prints, drawing, and sketches. Highly recommend!
Amazing book! The Magic of Escher in this book is an understatement
This is one of the best collections that I have ever seen. I saw a review in the New York Times and had to have this book. My son, who is artistic, thinks it's wonderful as well. The colors are crisp and the drawing everything you would expect from Escher. I highly recommend this book for anyone's collection.
