About the Author
Beth Ann Fennelly is the author of three poetry collections, Unmentionables, Tender Hooks, and Open House; two memoirs, Heating & Cooling and Great with Child; and a novel, The Tilted World, coauthored with her husband, Tom Franklin. She teaches at the University of Mississippi, and is also the state’s Poet Laureate. She lives in Oxford, Mississippi.

Wonderful! Not a book of advice, but a heartfelt exchange about what it means to become a mother, and to carry a child. I give it to all my friends when they are expecting.Note - trigger warning - the author discusses a miscarriage she experienced. It is very moving to hear her describe her experience, but just be aware if that is a sensitive topic for you.
I loved this book! It's a celebration of pregnancy and motherhood, and was a delightful read as I watched my own body change with the growing of our first child.
I will keep this book forever. So touching and comforting for an expecting, bewildered mother. A beautiful gift too!
I give this book to almost every new mom I know. Short and easy to read in those first sleepless nights home with baby. My mother in law and I read it together and it was a great way to bond over motherhood. Good laughs too! Genuine heart and soul in this epistolary work.
This was the best book I read while pregnant. Of course I read a million guides to pregnancy, but her writing gets at the heart of what it means to be a new mom, and I found her inspired writing to be far more honest and valuable than a list of "how-to"s. I now buy this book for all my pregnant friends and they've all enjoyed reading it as much as I did.
I am a first time expectant mom and found myself overwhelmed and a little freaked out by all of the medical books about pregnancy. Great with Child is a nice relief from all of that. It's a pleasant, easy read that provides a unique perspective on impending motherhood.
I absolutely loved this book. I got it last week, couldn't put it down, and then shared it with a friend (I want it back!). Ms. Fennelly truly captures "parenting moments" with such honesty and wit - she tackles some tough subjects that you rarely see in other books. Her advice to her newly-pregnant friend is loving and not judgemental (I loved how she threw a pregnancy "how to" book across the room). I connected with this book in so many ways, and I'm certain that anyone who has children (or who is expecting) will enjoy this book. I will definitely be buying many more copies for my friends!
Such a beautiful book. I've read it with each pregnancy and can't recommend it more highly. Read it. Then read it again. Then give it as gifts to any pregnant mama you know. Truly.
