About the Author
Margaret Littman is both a relative newcomer to the Volunteer State and an old-timer. An alumnae of Vanderbilt University, she left for points north over the course her writing career. But after 17 years she could no longer resist the siren song of the Parthenon, bluegrass music or fried pickles, and returned to Nashville where she writes about Music City, Southeast travel, food, pets and more. As a Nashville Unicorn (actually born here), I find this guide really helpful. I buy it for friends who tell me they are coming to town and send it in advance. Ms. Littman really "gets" this place. I personally use it to remind me of all of the great things to do in my own backyard.
Great helpful guide. Made the trip better
I bought this in conjunction with the same author's Moon Nashville to New Orleans Road Trip guide; I thought both were detailed and thoughtful. I live in Nashville and am always struggling when people come visit to come up with offbeat suggestions -- it's usually just the same five. Now this book (with penciled suggestions on many many pages, of course) sits on the bedside table in the guest room and guests can just do the damn research themselves.
Nashville is a fun city to visit, but as it has grown, it is harder to knowwhat is worth checking out. This updated guidebook made it easier for meand my family to find both old favorites and new things to check out. Plus,we avoided some of congestion and tourist traps by following this advice.
You know a travel guide has done its job well when you feel empowered at the end of it. Having never been to Nashville, I feel confident that if I arrived and had this book, I'd be able to put together a fun, memorable vacation. I have never envied travel guide authors - what do you leave out? what do you put in? But this guide did a fantastic job indicating must-sees for families, for foodies, for music lovers, and more. As a frequent co-navigator, I was a big fan of the detailed-enough-to-not-get-lost map selection. And as a food lover, I'm still drooling from the descriptions of the restaurant options!
Gave as a gift for a couple family members I'm taking to Nashville in a couple month's. I've been there before and I learned a couple new thing to look at. It was a nice little "get ready/excited for the trip"
