I used this book as part of my course study for my Masters in Theology. I found this book to be challenging, not in a stressful manner, but challenging me to grow in my intellectual perspective towards crisis in the Church. Almost everyone dislikes a conflict and studies have developed four types of responses towards conflict. We find ourselves either as an aggressive, passive, evasive, or defensive sort. This book is written in a manner that allows you to not only see yourself but to also understand how others around you react to conflict and that knowledge can be utilized in a constructive fashion to head off conflict or deal with existing conflict in an acceptable manner. This book has had a positive influence on my life in dealing with other people and with serving on church counsel as well. The self-examination that this book fosters provides such a great benefit to the reader far beyond what will be learned during any class setting. I am thankful for having this book brought into my growing library and highly recommend it for what it can offer to many others.

A great summation of the origins of conflict, biblical truths of conflict and conflict resolution, and practical guidance for addressing real life differences and conflicts before they become major events. It teaches to overcome personal knee jerk responses to speak truth in love to make true peace.
Making peace is one of the issues we will continue to partake as leaders. Why? because conflict in all forms will continue to be part of the human society. This book has been the best so far from the texts that I must read for the conflict class. This book is more practical and helpful to a preacher in a local congregation. The book is based more in scripture than the other books that are rooted in conflict management skills. This is a type of book that you could read and developed into numerous sermons from the material. The book details the four major responses to conflict within individuals. All people have certain unhealthy reactions to conflict and the book highlights these mindsets. The four type of responders are passive, evasive, defensive, and aggressive. As you read the text you will be able to see yourself and those around you. The book talks about the tactics of each group and how to deal with them. There is also an excellent section ontriangulation and counterfeit peace within congregations. Most congregations have this level of peace, but not true peace in Christ and in community. If a congregation isstruggling with communication problems, conflict, or interpersonal conflict, this is a book to get to begin the process. It is easy to understand and preach from. I highly endorse this text.

I did not expect such expertise in conflict that is so theologically sound. I highly recommend this not only to church leaders but to all Christians and to all leaders.
I bought this book for a class I am taking. This isn't your typical do this and do that book, even though those things can be helful. It causes us to look within ourselves and our own motives and how we can each contribute to conflict in our churches, in all our relationships. The bottom line is, "Do we want to be pleasing to God?"
Very good, Biblically-grounded book on understanding conflict within the Church and steps toward resolution. I think I learned more about myself than the issues and remedies involving the body of believers at-large.
