I got this as a gift for my husband who was going to work with children this summer around this age group. He doesn't know that much about kids and there were going to be lots of moments of down time between scheduled activities where he had to keep them interested- and indoors so it couldn't be a sports-related thing, which is his go-to. It's only been a week, but he told me that it has helped tremendously to open rapport between him and the kids- and of course between the kids themselves who have started as mostly strangers to each other. I looked through it myself ahead of time, being more experienced with kids, and can attest to the great range of ideas for all the age ranges listed. I was surprised to see some ideas that use a little bit of improv, which is SO fun for kids! I think even if you aren't in a classroom setting this can be really helpful - for nannies, or when visiting friends with kids who you don't know that well, etc.
I enjoy the small size of this book and the spiral binding. Really makes it convenient to keep around for quick reference. It also provides some example combinations of different meetings, and ways that you can specialize a morning meeting to your specific needs. I have ordered the full morning meeting instructional book now to get a more thorough understanding and maybe I should have started there in the first place. In all I find that spending the time in the morning to develop community and social skills is time well spent in the classroom. It pays back dividends in behavior and outlook!

I implemented so many strategies in my fourth grade classroom and I LOVED this book and my scholars highly enjoyed the engaging, family-oriented and anti-bullying activities and reflections. It helped ALL (myself included) of us to become better people and think a little harder and smarter before to do things. I wish I could thank the author personally. Excellent to be used with The First Six Weeks book. It's a great quick guide to making the morning meeting fun. Please be aware that if you're not familiar with how to run the morning meeting, this is not the first book to get.
Honestly, I love this book, but most of these ideas are online and you can get them for free by doing a simple search. I think there aren't enough ideas listed in the book. There are not 80 ideas for each component of Morning Meeting. There are about 20 for each, which will only last you a month or so. Don't let the title fool you. I wish it was longer and included more.
Although I do not have a teaching degree, I often lead groups of young people through theatre workshops. This is book is great for ice breaking and even theatre exercises. I love activities that gets kids out of their shells.
Love what morning meeting does for our classroom environment and unity. This quick guide makes morning meetings realistic and engaging to the students and myself to do daily.
