About the Author
Eric Carle is acclaimed and beloved as the creator of brilliantly illustrated and innovatively designed picture books for very young children. His best-known work, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has eaten its way into the hearts of literally millions of children all over the world and has been translated into more than 25 languages and sold over twelve million copies. Just as many others commented on here, I at first thought the book we received either had dead batteries or was malfunctioning, as the lights didn't work on the last page. Thanks to another review I found here with one tiny hint, our book now works fantastically (with the original batteries). There is a tiny button black button (blends in very well with the sky colors) on the top left of the last page...press it (it took me 2 tries to "release it" - it was a spring-like action) and the lights will work without fail every time you open the last page thereafter.
It's a work of art! All of Earl Carle's books are lovely to look at and easy to read. It's a pure visual delight for the kids when they get to the last, lit up page in the hardcover version. Really nice and makes a good gift!
my eric carle obsessed toddler loved the book!the book is similar to other eric carle books but with a surprise at the end - the fireflies light up.I'd buy again and recommend for any fan of eric carle books.
when I opened the book from the plastic wrap, none of the lights were working when I turned to the page. There is a tiny button (blends very well) with the sky on the left hand side of the last page of the book. Once I had pressed and depressed it, the lights lit up. It's not a steady light, the bulbs are in a sequence.Love the Eric Carle books - the ones with stories use real language with (more) sophisticated words than many children's books. Even the "What Do You See" books uses descriptive verbs. Plan to collect all of them.
I was so excited to find the book I read to my children when they were little. They were delighted when the fireflies on the last page lit up! I couldn't wait for my new grand daughter to have the book. THIS IS NOT THAT BOOK! I have no idea why the reviews all talk about how to turn on the fireflies on the last page. This is a children's reader. Anyone have any idea where I can find the book I want??
This story sort of grew on me. My 2 yo daughter loved the flashing fireflies at the end, and for some reason loved the little story within the pictures/in the dialogue of the characters. She memorized what they said pretty much immediately and started reading that for me (it shocked me at first).
The book is adorable. My grandson loves Eric Carle books-so he loves the illustrations in this book as well. On the last page the lightening bugs light up, which we both loved! It's a fun bedtime story to read in the dark by flashlight.
Love Eric Carle's bright pictures and different stories. Want all his books. Baby loves this one!
