I bought this for my mom after I had an amazing holiday in Iceland and returned with a phone full of photos that didn't adequately capture the otherworldlyness of the place. I'm not sure that anything 2-D can, really, but this book is certainly a massive upgrade from my persona photos.My mom is an painter and had asked for photos that she could paint - stones, old barnes/structures, landscapes with interesting textures and colors. She LOVED this book and has already flagged several images that she plans to recreate in other media.I do wish there was more information about the locations included in each photo, but still a very happy customer.p.s. Visit Iceland if you can!!
This coffee-table book is actually quite large and heavy. I bought it as a gift for a family member as we have Icelandic heritage. The photos inside are full-size on one side of the page, and the other side has little Icelandic songs/poems etc. which at first I thought I would dislike but they are quite interesting and lend a feel of tranquility. The photos themselves are stunning representations of the varied Icelandic landscape (although I would've liked to see a few photos of the famous hot springs which, unless I am mistaken, were not in the book). Overall a great gift for anyone who loves landscape photography, travel, or has been to/is planning a trip to Iceland.
The book was not what I expected. Don't be fooled into thinking that there are lots of pictures in this book. Not true. Mostly blank space. In a book of 256 pages, there are only 110 photos of Iceland. On the facing page to each photo is a short poem about nature and nothing about the picture. The info about the photo itself is in a short section at the end of the book. For most photos, this section contains a little description about where the photo was taken (one or two words) and what the images represent (geology or climate). Some photo descriptions do not even have the photo location. This book was actually a disappointment.
My husband loved this book, it was a great Xmas gift. A beautiful photography book of Iceland, his favorite place. We've been there twice,and this book will not disappoint. Many friends have enjoyed it too. Iceland really is as gorgeous as these photos.
Feodor's photography is astonishing. The naturalistic approach is a welcome change from many of the post-processed images that I'm used to seeing these days. This book will serve as an inspiration to my own photographic endeavors. The forward is an interesting read, recounting the early pioneers of landscape photography in the American West. The poetry presented with each image tends towards the fanciful at times, though it's generally a welcome accompaniment. The book itself is well made and the printing is of the quality you'd hope for. I bought this as a gift - and now I buying one for myself.
The landscapes in this book are jaw-dropping. As a landscape photographer, I appreciate the work of others, especially the work of those who have taken the time to put their lives into images!
The photographs are as stunning as paintings; poems, excellent in their own right, complement each photograph's atmosphere. An unexpected plus is the geological information presented like footnotes at the back of the book.
Beautiful photos of a beautiful country! There are a few places that we love but are not included in the book--our only reason for not giving it 5 stars. It is expensive, but so are all other available photo books of Iceland, whether bought in the U.S. or in Iceland.
